Justice Advocacy Program
Program objectives:
✅ Enhancing Legal Skills:
The program aims to strengthen participants' skills in strategic litigation and the use of advanced legal tools that contribute to driving legal and social change. Participants will learn how legal cases can serve as an effective means to influence public policies and transform legal practices to be more aligned with respect for human rights.
✅ Empowering Participants to Utilize International Frameworks:
Participants will gain knowledge on effectively leveraging international conventions in both domestic and international litigation. This will ensure the protection of rights and the application of international standards in local courts, thereby strengthening justice at both national and global levels.
✅ Contributing to the Development of a Regional Legal Network:
Through this program, participants will have the opportunity to engage with peers from various countries in the region, fostering the creation of a regional legal network of lawyers, judges, and human rights activists. This network will enable them to exchange experiences, share knowledge, and learn from one another about complex legal issues and best practices in litigation for advancing justice.
✅ Engaging with Contemporary Human Rights Issues:
The program aims to equip participants to address complex contemporary legal challenges facing society, such as freedom of expression, digital rights, economic and social rights, and minority rights. Participants will learn how to tackle these issues legally within both local and global contexts and how to utilize international legal tools to achieve positive outcomes.

Training content
The program encompasses a series of carefully crafted advanced training modules designed to maximize the benefits for participants. It aims to empower them to utilize legal tools efficiently and effectively, contributing to the realization of justice and the promotion of human rights across various domains. The training modules focus on:
Strategic litigation:
Includes intensive training on strategic litigation techniques and their use in driving social and legal change. Participants will benefit from case studies to understand how legal cases can influence public policy and lead to reforms in national and international legislation.
Leveraging international human Rights instruments:
Participants will receive comprehensive training on how to activate international human rights instruments in legal cases. This includes enhancing their understanding of utilizing international agreements, such as the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights and the African Charter on Human and Peoples' Rights, to support local cases and strengthen individuals' rights within their national courts.
Contemporary human rights issues:
The program analyzes contemporary human rights issues such as freedom of expression, digital security, and the protection of minority rights, focusing on their legal implications. Participants will study litigation strategies used to challenge laws that threaten public freedoms and work on developing approaches to address these challenges effectively.
Logistical skills in litigation:
The training also covers the logistical skills essential for strategic litigation. This includes preparation for international litigation, organizing legal case files, handling international claims, and enhancing communication and negotiation skills in human rights cases.
